1997 was a great year for education on the Internet. The Internet community has grown to nearly 49 million users. There are now close to 2 million unique Web sites on the Net. Electronic commerce is beginning to take hold. And the White House Educational Internet Initiative is bearing fruit at schools across our country. We are excited to have been a part of such a groundbreaking year.

Education World went through many changes in 1997. In May, Education World went through its biggest facelift since its birth date in August of 1996. In November the technical development team redesigned the servers and software that makes up Education World. We used the fastest hardware and most advanced database and search engine technologies available to deliver a world class site for our dedicated users. Education World now is faster and more rich than ever!

1998 is going to be a great year! Our editorial staff is gearing up to deliver another year of fantastic original articles. We are excited to deliver even better weekly editions of the fastest growing electronic education newsletter. Our technical staff has prepared our site to support ten times the traffic we had in 1997. Our research staff will be hard at work delivering regular reviews and updates to the database.

A few of the additions to Education World in 1998 include:

  1. The education World database will be expanded to 100,000 educational resources in the first two quarters of 1998.

  2. The "Educator's Forum" will be revamped to include "context sensitive" forums. This will allow more specific discussions on articles and issues that are "hot spots" for educators.

  3. Our Jobs database will be expanded and will include more listings and user interaction.

  4. Education World will be kept FREE for all through the continued support of wonderful sponsors such as: IBM World Book, Gateway 2000, Cisco Systems, and American Fidelity.

  5. We will expand our site questionnaire to include timely and event specific questions that our users can review to keep track of the changing views and positions of their colleagues.

  6. Our Cool School Program will expand with the help of our "News/Eye on School" sponsor - Cisco Systems.
These are a few of the new features and additions that you will see in 1998. We will be listening to our users for other features, additions, and changes. Remember that YOU help us build Education World. We listen and react to your feedback and questionnaire responses. Help us to keep Education World the number one place "Where Educators Go To Learn".
