National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)
http://nces.ed.gov/index.html
GRADE LEVEL: Professional

CONTENT:
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is a branch of the U.S. Department of Education. The NECS gathers and analyzes data on the state of education in America and disseminates its findings through annual publications, both on the Internet and in hard copy.

AESTHETICS:
The site has few graphics. The information is often presented in bulleted lists, although a variety of layouts are used.

ORGANIZATION:
The site catalogs the huge amount of information available in its various articles and publications. Each article has a hyperlinked table of contents and a search feature. Individual pages have navigational links back to the table of contents and the main page at the very bottom of the page. The pages tend to be long, so be prepared to use your browser's back button.

REVIEW:
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) produces a vast amount of statistical information every year. The materials cover the state of education from pre-k through post grad and include statistics on a wide variety of subjects. The two main publications cataloging this information are the Condition of Education and the Digest of Education Statistics, which can be found by clicking on General Information About NCES on the main page. A list of the most important recent publications is available on the main page. Another listing is available by clicking on Publications in the left-hand navigational bar on the main page. To make finding things less confusing, the site offers a News Flash email notification service that informs you of new publications available on specified topics.
