Site Review: The Daily Beast – Education

Site URL:   http://www.thedailybeast.com/topics/education.html

Content:   This subdomain of Newsweek online touts itself as “a smart, speedy take on the news from around the world, combined with the depth and investigative power of Newsweek Magazine.” Blending aggregated content with pieces from Newsweek writers, the site offers a nice selection of education-themed articles, touching upon everything from failing military schools to the Atlanta school cheating scandal to the new CA law emphasizing gay history.

Design:  The Education section of the site features a simple design that is dominated by two very large article teaser boxes, with two five-item columns of smaller teasers beneath. Many more pages of articles are a click away. Visitors interested in instant updates can sign up for a Twitter feed, and the site also features an iPhone app.

Review:  The Education section of The Daily Beast provides a digest of quality education-themed news articles from such credible sources as The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Seeing a few more links nearer the top of the page would be nice, but there’s certainly no difficulty navigating, since the site’s design is very straightforward.

Bottom Line:  Educators are bound to find something of interest in The Daily Beast’s Education section, whether they are following developments in education policy or are simply interested in day-to-day happenings affecting schools in the U.S. and around the world.
