REVIEW
The Poetry Everywhere Collection offers teachers a way to motivate students to read and enjoy poetry. Each video features the work of such notable poets as Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Seamus Heaney, and Yusef Komunyakaa. Many of the poems are read by the poets themselves. Accompanying materials include background essays, teaching tips, and standards. Two fully developed lesson plans -- one for “The Lanyard,” by Billy Collins -- explore contrasting images. In another lesson -- for “Selected Haiku,” by Issa -- students analyze various haiku and then write their own. All the teaching materials are appropriate for grades 7-12.
