REVIEW
In celebration of the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), this site is dedicated to using the portraits in the National Gallery to “show the changing face that Abraham Lincoln presented to the world as he led the fight for the Union.” Visitors will want to begin with the introduction and proceed to the next three sections; the rise of Lincoln, the Civil War, and Lincoln’s contemporaries. Select the audio tour to learn why Lincoln grew a beard, why the masks are cracked, or how a photo of Lincoln’s second inaugural foreshadowed his death. Teachers will find a link to five lesson plans for grades 4-12 that can be used in conjunction with the exhibit. .
