Keeping Up With the Joneses! Web site name: Mrs. Jones's Class
Web site creator: Tammy Jones, Central School, Huntsville, Alabama
Web site URL: http://www.madison.k12.al.us/central/fourth/jones.htm

"We, as educators, have little time to reinvent the wheel for every subject we teach," fourth-grade teacher Tammy Jones told Education World. "Projects and other ideas that we each can share on the Web are of great value to all of us."

It was for just that reason that Jones created Mrs. Jones's Class as a resource for students, parents, and educators. She developed the site after attending several workshops, including one on Web page creation. "I found out how easy it was and was instantly hooked!" Jones recalled.

If you're a teacher who would like to see the school or classroom Web site you've created featured in WebWizard, please e-mail the site's URL and your contact information to [email protected]

Jones uses her site to post class projects and assignments, point parents and students to online curriculum resources, and share the activities and achievements of her students. "My favorite page is the Poetry Page because it contains my students' writing," explained Jones. "The favorite among my students and their parents is my Braggin' Page because, well, it's my place to brag about my students' accomplishments."

The class home page has been warmly received. Parents enjoy keeping up with the students' schoolwork, and members of the community have sent messages to Jones telling her how much they appreciate the opportunity to follow the class throughout the year.

"This summer I have gathered many ideas about how to improve my site and my use of technology in classroom instruction," said Jones. "I will be adding projects from my classroom and links to projects my students have participated in each year."

Thanks to an idea supplied by a fellow educator, Jones recently constructed a page called the Einstein Club. In it, students are challenged to go beyond classroom expectations by researching the answers to specific questions with online resources. She is eager to have students try out this new enrichment exercise!
