REVIEW:
This bilingual site offers educators tips for reaching out to parents and students as well as suggestions for using the site and a downloadable handbook (Help! They Don't Speak English Starter Kit for Primary Teachers) for creating a classroom environment where all students succeed. The site also offers information for teachers of English-language learners (ELLs), including background information, tips for reaching out to Hispanic families, placement and assessment information, and tips for teaching reading and content-area subjects. A newsletter is also available. For Spanish-speaking parents, the site offers the tools they need to help their children learn to read and be successful in school. Parents will find simple practical ways to help their children at home; ideas for encouraging learning; effective ways to read with children; and tips for knowing if a child needs additional help. Ideas for helping a child in school include how to let the school know your concerns, parents' rights, and tips for talking with the teacher. Activities that parents can do are included for each of a long list of reading tips.
