Tolerance.org
Site against hate, from the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Grade Level: 6-8, 9-12, Advanced, Professional

http://www.tolerance.org

CONTENT:
This award-winning site provides resources for teachers, parents, teens, and kids who are interested in "dismantling bigotry and creating, in hate's stead, communities that value diversity."
AESTHETICS:
The layout of the site uses wide margins, quick loading graphics and easily read text to make it appealing.
ORGANIZATION:
A navigation bar at the top and bottom of each page for the whole site and individual sections make navigating easy.

REVIEW:
Did you know that in the United States a hate crime is committed every hour, on average? "Tolerance.org promotes and supports anti-bias activism in every venue of American life." Visitors to the site will find current news articles about "groups and individuals working for tolerance and fighting hate" as well as information about U.S. hate groups, Web sites, and music that promote hate, ways to fight hate and promote tolerance, and the tools to "dig deeper" to explore our own hidden biases. Resources are available for teachers, parents, teens, and kids. Teachers and parents are provided with practical ideas and resources for responding to problems and nurturing tolerance. Teens can read stories by and about student activists and find tips and ideas for promoting tolerance. A special section for kids offers entertaining and educational activities for young children, such as listening to a Turkish folktale, interacting with the story of the first Jewish judge on the U.S. Supreme Court, or joining a family of mice for lunch to discover a bilingual surprise.
