SITE REVIEW

September 2003

Soda Play
Looks simple, plays simple, but a super creative high-tech site!
Grade Level: 6-8, 9-12, Advanced

http://www.sodaplay.com/

CONTENT:
This highly interactive site encourages users to experiment and be creative by creating animated models online.
AESTHETICS:
The site has a simple look but the technology behind it is no simple matter. A Java enabled browser is required and it works best with a high-speed connection.
ORGANIZATION:
The site offers detailed directions for use. Main areas of the site are linked on the front page.

REVIEW:
Sodaplay offers visitors the opportunity to practice their creativity as well as learn a little physics by building animated models online. Young and old alike are sure to be interactively engaged for hours as they experiment with the "sodaconstructor", "an online construction kit for building animated models". Visitors to the site can choose to build their own model from scratch or build upon one that was created by someone else. The models can be manipulated by adjusting the gravity, friction and spring tension. Creators can also submit their model for inclusion in the "Sodazoo". Test how your creativity measures up to computer learning in the "sodarace". Users are invited to compete in the online olympics to construct virtual racing robots. Virtual robots that are created by humans race against computer-generated virtual robots to promote "a creative exploration of physics and engineering".
