Media Awareness Network (MNet)
Taking media literacy to a new level: "information literacy."
Grade Level: 6-8, 9-12, Parents, Professional

http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/index.cfm

CONTENT:
This award-winning Canadian site hosts a variety of resources for teachers and parents about media education and Internet literacy. It is available in both French and English.
AESTHETICS:
This site is colorful and has a few well-placed graphics. Flash Player is needed for parts of the site.
ORGANIZATION:
The material is organized into a section for teachers and a section for parents, both of which are accessible from links on the homepage. The top navigation bar and the left side menu offer links to other parts of the site, and a search tool is also available.

REVIEW:
The Media Awareness Network (MNet) provides information and tools for parents and teachers "to help young people to understand how the media work, how the media may affect their lifestyle choices, and the extent to which they, as consumers and citizens, are being well informed." The section for teachers offers many lesson plans (K-12) and professional development resources. Lesson plans, searchable and browsable by grade level and subject area, are geared towards the Canadian curriculum but can easily be adapted to fit any curriculum. The section for parents provides information and tips for managing media in the home, as well as a link to educational games for kids. A handy "Content Cart" is provided for collecting resources and then printing them all at once.
