WEBQUEST

My Five Senses:
A WebQuest for Grades K-2

INTRODUCTION

The science teacher at your school is going to teach students about the five senses. He wants to start with the most important sense, but he can't decide which one that should be. He has asked your class to choose which of the five senses you think is most important.

TASK

The students in your class will work in groups to learn about the five senses. Each group will report on what it finds and the class will vote on which sense is most important sense. Then each student will make a book about all five senses.

PROCESS

  • Step 1: Your teacher arranges your class into five groups.
  • Step 2: Each member of the group is given a special job to do. Those jobs are:
    1. The Manager:
    2. The Recorder:
    3. The Speechwriters:
    4. The Speaker:
  • Step 3: Your teacher assigns to your group one of the five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, or touch.
  • Step 4: You visit some Web sites to learn about your group's assigned sense.
  • Step 5: You meet with your group to talk about what you learned. Your group answers questions about the assigned sense. Those questions are:
    1. Which part of the body do you need to use that sense?
    2. How does that sense help you learn?
    3. How does that sense help you have fun?
    4. How would your life be different if you could not use that sense?
    5. Why is that sense important?

    The Manager asks the questions and makes sure everyone has a chance to answer.
    The Recorder writes down the answers to the questions.

  • Step 6: Your group uses the answers to the questions to make a list of the reasons your assigned sense is important.
    The Speechwriters write a speech telling about that sense. In the speech, they try to convince their classmates that your group's sense is the most important one. The Speaker reads the speech to the class.

  • Step 7: After all the groups give their speeches, the class votes on which of the five senses is the most important.
  • Step 8: Each student makes a My Five Senses Book.
