Thanksgiving Means More Than Giving Thanks!
The U.S. Congress has decided to change the name of the holiday celebrated on the last Thursday in November. The holiday should be a day for more than just giving thanks, the lawmakers say. Your team will help Congress decide what the new name should be.

I Know My Shapes and Colors
A famous senator is trying to pass a law to get rid of all the shapes in the world. He says, "Shapes are useless. People can't eat shapes. They can't work or play in shapes." To keep the law from being passed, you and your classmates must prove that shapes are important.

So You Want to Compete in the Olympics?
You and a team of students from your class hope to try out for a Junior Olympics to be held during the next summer Olympics. Your team must choose a sport, determine how you will prepare for the competition, and create a PowerPoint presentation outlining your plan.

A Bug Safari
This spring, the town nature director will conduct insect safaris in the park. You have been asked to create a field guide to help those who go on the safaris learn about the insects. The guide must tell what the insects look like, where they live, and if they hurt or help people.

Why Not a Woman?
Many people think a new holiday should be added to the federal holidays observed in the United States. Congress says the new holiday must honor a woman. You and your classmates must nominate a woman you think is important enough to have a federal holiday named after her.

The Ride of Their Lives
A combination museum and amusement park is being planned for your hometown. Each section of the park will be related to one of the exhibits in the museum. You and your classmates have been asked to design a ride or other activity related to the museum's circulatory system exhibit.

Tour the USA
A group of foreign exchange students is going to tour the United States by car. They won't have time to see the entire United States, so they've decided to focus their tour on only one region of the country. They've asked your class to help them decide which region to explore.

My Five Senses
The science teacher at your school is preparing a unit on the five senses. He wants to start with the most important sense, but he can't decide which one that should be. Students choose which of the five senses they think is most important and complete a book about the five senses.

El Juego que Aprende: The Learning Game
When LaToya Maker, president of Teach Me Toys.com, learned that Hispanics make up 12.5 percent of the U.S. population and 17 percent of the public school enrollment, she asked designers to create a game to teach kids about Hispanic heritage.

Save Our Schoolhouse!
An abandoned one-room schoolhouse in your community is scheduled to be torn down. You have been named to a committee to save the old schoolhouse by creating a presentation showing how the schoolhouse can be restored and used as a "living museum" for the benefit of the community.

Dinosaurs Sell!
The National Museum of Natural History's Department of Paleontology is about to launch a new dinosaur Web site. In order to publicize its new interactive exhibit, the museum has asked you to create a presentation that will stimulate public interest in dinosaurs.

Election 2004
The next election is close at hand - but who will you vote for? To answer that question, research the candidates and the issues. Then share what you learn and debate the issues with your classmates during a weekly classroom "press conference."
